Talbot Mill
The development consists of 190 residential units along with public realm and amenity block works, consisting of three residential blocks including two mill refurbishments and a ten storey new build. The development is located within the Castlefield area of Manchester and the long awaited development works will see the provision of a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
Talbot Mill has been derelict for a number of years and the regeneration of this area of Manchester is continuing to thrive.
It is believed that the mills were constructed in 1855 and they flourished with success, when in 1897 JE Waters, with a number of other companies formed The English Sewing Cotton Company Ltd. The company dominated the cotton industry within Manchester.
Talbot mill holds a lot of historical significance in Manchester, particularly of the industrial revolution. The workforce was largely young people in the mills heyday and when they were thriving at their peak. The young people were mainly mill girls as education was only compulsory for children aged 5-10 from 1880 to 1918.
These young people were employed for general, unskilled work. They would walk the aisles, picking up and gathering cotton waste. They would also fix broken threads as this needed small hands but was very dangerous.
CR(U.K.) are delighted to add this project and this client to our expanding portfolio of work.
